Cultural Visit to Terengganu

Yep! For April we're Organizing a trip to terengannu!

It will be a 2 days and 2 night’s trip.
The main idea is to experience traditional art of Malaysia.
We plan to make a visit to a batik factory and songket factory also in-plan are to see other traditional art such as keris making, wau making and gasing making.

the goal of the trip is to expose members to traditional art of Malaysia and incourage fellowship

The trip will accommodate 10 participants only.
non members may attend if there are available slots

the date has been set to 15th-17th April
Friday - Sunday

Current Expected Budget is RM 250 per person
we are working on lowering the budget so do stay tune

It's gonna be an all-day-long arts festival organised by klpac.

The hugely popular klpac Open Day returns after a one-year hiatus!

The very first Open Day took place in 2008 and it was an absolute hit, attracting some 6000 people. The following year, the event grew bigger, attracting close to 7000 people and pooled together some 500 artistes from the industry and volunteers with 80 different activities.

"What is klpac Open Day all about?"

First of all, it is FREE for all to participate & all to attend.

Every activities on that day itself will be FREE of charge, isn't that awesome?It's not just performances but also guided tours around the grounds, demonstrations, workshops, talks, open rehearsals, exhibition, and even film screenings.

Not to worry of age limit!! There are activities for adults as well as children. So just come with your open heart...It'll be a good chance to sample all that the local arts scene can offer and experience first hand all the different genres of arts from traditional to contemporary.

Industrial/Product Design & You

Thing's been busy, sorry for the slow update. Anyway, I was shopping around in Ikea that one afternoon, enjoying the ever astounding furniture designs and remarkable ideas that all these designers could throw into interior designing. It suddenly came to me that of all this while, I find that much of the people that I've come across; people who's directly or indirectly related to the design industry, rarely got themselves into something like Industrial design or more commonly know to us, product design.

I mean sure, yeah, all of us have become very much "expert" critics in all kinds of products that appear right before our eyes - maybe we skipped past the "hey, I didn't self-proclaimed myself as being expert" hoozah, but we do keep criticizing every product that we lay our eyes upon; for example the iPhone 4. Some might say it's a magnificent piece of art, some might say well, I don't know.

Why Aren't People Getting into Industrial Design?
Perhaps this question has been pondering me, why? Even our own Artz club member doesn't seem so much aware of it. Read on for the wonders and adventures of industrial design.

The very reason why I think that much of the people (who's into design stuffs), aspired designers, or rookies, or whatever you may call em'; don't really get themselves into knowing what's to be known. I'm not saying that being the jack-of-all-trades, but exposing yourself and finding yourself in the vast field of design industry. And by that, industrial design sure is something you could venture into.

I'm Into It, but I Can't Draw.

It's never really about whether you could, or you couldn't draw. Personally I myself never went through any special drawing classes or someone training me or whatever. Everything was self-thought, self-improvement, and a thick face. Yes. Thick face. Not for deflecting criticism from people, but your own mind. Most of us just simply give up when something that we drew becomes unbearable to our own eyes, then we start bashing ourselves about how awful the drawing is. Seriously, drawing motor-coordination skills don't come easy without you, first identifying what's wrong with what you're drawing. Can't get that curve that you want? There are tonnes of books telling you how to achieve certain techniques, why didn't you thought of that?

If you feel what you drew, it becomes real to everyone.

Just like the image above, something that you draw, has to be real to you; or else whatever comes out from that hand - just a piece of crap.

And just like most industrial designers nowadays, omit those who design with brains and creativity, simply don't give a damn when creating something. They might create something so amazing to the eyes, but you simply can't use it properly, or it just doesn't address issues you might face when using it.

This Part Sucks, they should've Made the Curve here like This...
Like I said previously, we're all product critics. You get hold of a product, you use it, you start experiencing flaws of it. Then you make comments about how it could've been better. See? So we're all very much, or somewhat industrial designers to a CERTAIN extend.

User Experience

The above, the 4N super-cool watch. A month ago, I came across this great article about "From Industrial Design to User Experience" by Mark Baskinger, he talks about how today's product design has change, but with much irony. User experience, as much with the iPhone 4, is amazing to lots of people. Simply because the design's bold and simple, IT'S DIFFERENT. And that ultimately gives you the first good aesthetic experience. But upon usage, things might change, like the now highly debated antenna issue that plagues the iPhone 4.

So what does it take to be a industrial designer? You and minus of ignorance. And what do you love designing best? Gadgets? Watches? Electrical appliances? It's just you, and your mind.

So don't limit yourself to a small scope of field. Get out and see what is YOU.

It's finally here! The revamped design of D'Artz Club blog! Hope y'all happy with the overall look and feel. Obviously there's still some tweaking I need to do before it's done. :P Aite.

There were some complications when implementing the design, as my test blog was running fine. But when things were ported over, ehyaya. But I got it fixed anyway. :)

Known issues:

There's no automatic date insertion into the post. So the date had to be manually inserted like what I did. I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.
No edit button either for authors.
You can't simply add gadgets to the sidebar as you like.
Some authorized authors might be annoyed with the above issues.
I'm very tired now. Whole day getting this design up.
I want some cheezburgers.

D'Xmas Bash Conclusion

D'Xmas Bash turned out to be a great success.

Firstly, we would like to thank all the lecturers that borrowed their voices, Mr. Nicholas Jeremy, Mr. Jason Leong, Mr Jerry Chong, Ms. Anita Paul and Ms. Bridget Merliza. Thank you!

We also want to thank our vice president, Vivian for organizing the caroling team.
Not forgetting, a big thanks to the D'Music Band for their special performance.

A big thank you to Krishna our MC, for without her help, our event would not have been as lively :D

& also to Rotaract Club of UCTI for collaborating with us in our very first event.

Lastly, We would like to thank all of you that attended this D'Xmas Bash and supported us. Without your presences, it wouldn't had been as successful.

For next Saturday, we have organized a trip to visit one of the world's largest pewter maker, Royal Selangor.

This trip is organized to expose the different types and angles of arts and to provide an interesting event for our members.

This trip will basically allow participants to experience the process of crafting pewter items and its intricacies.

The trip is open to nonmembers.

D'Muzic is a session collaboration by D'ArtZ's Music section and Music Club.
It's a get-together session to share knowledge of music, the love for music, & jamming together.

The session also proves as the club's very own band for any future performances.
The sessions aim is to gather music lovers in APIIT/UCTI
& to encourage a more enriching college life

Don't have any music background?
Fear not!
Simply attend the session, learn from us, members and even have a hands on experience.
Pick it up at your own pace.
You may even be able to perform with us in future events.

The sessions is split into a beginners and advance section.

Advance session caters to those who already have experience in playing, and will be personally attended to by our session conductor.

Beginners session is catered to interested students with no knowledge in music.

D'ArtZ Club is going to have a recruitment drive throughout of next week. We would like to encourage more new members to be a part of us! As a new growing club we hope to be able to recruit in more member interested in having some extra fun in their college life.

Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival (KLPF) is a combination of photography and travel events. The Yearly Photography Festival organized by Photo Creator Publication (Advanced Images Magazine, Photo Creator Magazine & Travelmate Magazine), will be held at Lower Ground, Berjaya Times Square, on 18-19 October, 2008.

our next meeting will commence after the hols which is the 3rd of February
an update and full details on this meeting will be posted on the 30th of January
we will be currently focused for valentines =)

To all members who just joined, please please register at the forum as most discussions and activities and fun goes through the forum.
